About the Programme
The Diploma in Sonic Arts is a comprehensive course in music and audio technology, supported by cutting-edge recording studios and music production facilities. The programme is designed to produce all-rounders in the field of sonic arts, who are equally adept at studio recording, mixing and mastering, live sound engineering, scoring for film and television, sound design for commercials and games and live performances.
The programme will help students develop a good ear for music, knowledge and appreciation of various musical genres, a keen aural sensibility crucial to sound design and music composition and personal creative voices.
This programme is delivered through a series of theoretical study, practical workshops, production assignments, industry projects and strategic internship placements.
Students will develop core competencies in location and sound recording, multi-track recording, audio post-production, sound design, sonic experimentation and live sound reinforcement and of course, composition and performance.
Students have the opportunity to work with the very best audio technology and equipment, HD software and an extensive range of unique analog synthesizers and instruments such as Doepfer, Moog, Buchla and Theremin.
The scope of study also includes video post-production and creative entrepreneurship which enhances your versatility and employability.
Career Prospects
The diploma positions students at the forefront of industry where they are able to fill a wide range of professional roles in live sound engineering for music, theatre, entertainment and corporate events; recording studios; radio stations; sound design and audio post-production for film, television, theatre and games, as well as music composing and performance.
Graduates can also work in the audio or multimedia departments of schools, government bodies, and a range of private enterprises.
Further Studies
Graduates can choose to further their education in local and international universities offering degree programmes ranging from Sound Design to Creative Arts and Communication. Many of our graduates progress to National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University.
Advanced standing of up to 1.5 years is currently available at overseas universities such as Queensland University of Technology, Monash University, Edith Cowan University, University of Queensland and the University of Newcastle in Australia.
